Assessment
The Student Assessment Guide and Learning Plan describes the evidence required to be competent in this unit.

You can track your progress by comparing it against unit requirements and at every stage of your learning and study. You can also get support from your iTAFE mentor and advisor.

Study Guide

There are many ways that you might choose to make your way through the unit. The diagram and suggested sessions (below) will help to plan your learning through the Work in partnership with families to provide appropriate care for their children unit. The sessions outlined below are a suggestion only - you may have another way that you prefer to study

 
Session 1. Welcoming families & providing information to families about the service (Blue Tiles)
This includes:
·         Creating a welcoming environment  for all family members
·         Orientation of families  to make information about the operation of the service available to families
·         Provide information about the service in the  main languages used in the community
·         Demonstrate an understanding of each child & their family & community context
A few points to think about in your blog:
·         How does an effective educator ensure that families feel welcomed to their service?
·         What are the consequences for families if the services orientation procedures lack details & are rushed?
Session 2 Provide families with opportunities to be involved in the service (Pink tiles)
This includes
·         Encourage families to share their knowledge,  skills, expertize and aspects of their family life & culture
·         Inform & create opportunities for families to contribute to the operation of the service in an advisory consultative and decision-making role
·         Links with Early Years Learning Framework & National Quality Standards
A few point to think about in your blog:
·         The Early Years Framework states that ‘Children and families can find their culture, background, identity reflected in a way that makes them feel good about themselves’.  What do think are the benefits of encourage families to share their knowledge, skills, expertize and aspects of their family life & culture?
·         What are some of the characteristics of a collaborative partnership with families?
 
Session 3 Provide information to families about their child (Purple tiles)
This includes
·         Sharing information with families about children’s progress, relationships, interests and experiences both in & outside the service
·         Implement strategies that facilitate shared decision-making with families about the their
·         Respond to families questions, concerns & requests in a prompt & courteous way
·         Inform families promptly & sensitively of any incidents affecting their child
A few points to think about in your blog:
·         Explain why it is essential to respond to families’ questions, concerns & requests in a prompt & courteous way?
·         Can you give an example of effective strategies for creating opportunities for sharing information with families about children’s progress, relationships, interests

Session 4 Provide families with information about community services and resources (Orange tiles)
This includes
·         Making information to families about community services & resources
·         Ensuring that there is processes in place to maintain current contact details of community services & resources
·         Assisting families to locate & contact& or access community services & resources as required
A few points to think about in your blog
·         Explain why it is essential to have up to date information about community services & resources available for families at all times?
·         How can technology be used to encourage  a sense of community with all families at the service?
